Lighting and Aperture Photography FAQ

You probably wonder what has been up with me lately. I keep thinking about how I should post that or post this but life seems to catch up with me and remind me how busy I am. But its a good busy!!  Its been a very long time since I have posted a photography FAQ so I decided to post one.:)

As some of you may know from following me. I decided to put on a small class once a week for 5 weeks. Its been going really good! Its definitely challenged me to think more and be a better photographer. We have only gone two weeks so far and I can’t wait to see how the rest goes.

SOOO with that being said I decided to post some of the examples I took. The first one is the difference between using f/1.2 and f/4.0. And how you can position your subject in the same location but moving your subject to make better lighting.

This first image was taken at f/1.2 and as you can see there is a great natural vignette around the photo. That didn’t happen with the photo taken at f/4.0. Also look at the brick wall and the electrical box. The background is much more in focus in the f/4.0. So that takes a lot away from the subject when the background is more in focus.

Now in these photos we had Madison up against a wall that was in deep shadow. It could still get a good photo because it was pretty early in the evening. But when we moved Madison closer to edge of the shadow where the sun was hitting on the concrete. You can see the lighting is perfect just on her. The background is nice and dark compared to the subject. This is something I still am trying to learn. That I don’t get caught up in trying to go fast for my clients but rather really thinking about where is the best light in this location. But its something you have to really try to remember.

Thanks for letting me use you for the examples Madison! I’m really glad you are in the class.
